Repentance

And saying, The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand: repent ye, and believe the gospel.

The kingdom announcement demands repentance and belief in the gospel.

I tell you, Nay: but, except ye repent, ye shall all likewise perish.

Jesus warns that refusing to repent leads to destruction.

46 And said unto them, Thus it is written, and thus it behoved Christ to suffer, and to rise from the dead the third day: 47 And that repentance and remission of sins should be preached in his name among all nations, beginning at Jerusalem.

The risen Christ commands repentance and remission of sins to every nation in His name.

37 Now when they heard this, they were pricked in their heart, and said unto Peter and to the rest of the apostles, Men and brethren, what shall we do? 38 Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.

Peter answers conviction with a direct command to repent before baptism and Spirit reception.

Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out, when the times of refreshing shall come from the presence of the Lord;

Repentance includes conversion, a decisive turn toward God.

And the times of this ignorance God winked at; but now commandeth all men every where to repent:

God’s command to repent is universal, not limited to one ethnic audience.

Testifying both to the Jews, and also to the Greeks, repentance toward God, and faith toward our Lord Jesus Christ.

Paul joins repentance toward God with faith toward Jesus Christ.

For godly sorrow worketh repentance to salvation not to be repented of: but the sorrow of the world worketh death.

Godly grief is not repentance itself; it produces repentance that leads toward salvation.
