Apostolic Apologetics
Lesson 4 of 4Level 1: Plain Foundations65 minutes

Prayer, “Greater,” the Unknown Hour, and the Right Hand

The most common Father-Son objections are answered by applying the same incarnation framework consistently.

Lesson thesisTexts of dependence, limitation, obedience, and exaltation describe the genuine Son and His mediatorial mission, not a lesser or separate God.
Plain-language pass

Start with the main point: The most common Father-Son objections are answered by applying the same incarnation framework consistently.

  • Name what the passage says before explaining what it means.
  • Use one clear Scripture before stacking several references.
  • Answer the checkpoint in plain words first.
01

Prayer and greater-language concern humbled mission

The Son possesses real human dependence and will. The Father is greater in the sense that God transcends the humbled incarnate condition and is the source of mission.

Apostolic explanation should not deny the verse. It should ask greater in what respect and during what condition.

02

The unknown hour belongs to genuine human knowledge

Mark’s statement is one of the strongest witnesses to Christ’s real human cognitive life. If Jesus only acted uninformed, the incarnation becomes deceptive.

The same Gospel tradition attributes divine authority and identity to Jesus. The distinction is not two Gods with unequal information but deity and authentic humanity united in Christ.

03

Right-hand visions communicate exaltation

Stephen sees divine glory and the Son of man standing in vindication. The vision distinguishes the glorified human Messiah in relation to God’s glory.

Old Testament idiom and Revelation’s one-throne conclusion prevent the image from becoming two coequal Gods with separate divine bodies.

Scripture lab

Apply one framework to four objections

For each objection, write: what the text truly affirms, the category it belongs to, and the next passage that clarifies it.

Watch for
  • Agreement with the text is the starting point.
  • Humanity, mission, and exaltation are not interchangeable categories.
  • One-God confession remains the controlling boundary.
Key terms
Qua
A reasoning term meaning ‘in the capacity of’ or ‘with respect to,’ useful when distinguishing what belongs to Christ as man and as God.
Vindication
God’s public declaration and demonstration that Jesus is righteous, risen, and truly Lord.
Common misunderstandingAny distinction between Father and Son proves separate divine persons.

Incarnation necessarily produces real distinctions between eternal Spirit and genuine human Son without multiplying the number of Gods.

Reflection and teaching note

Choose one objection and build a response with an opening verse, one-sentence point, next verse, and likely follow-up.
