And without controversy great is the mystery of godliness: God was manifest in the flesh, justified in the Spirit, seen of angels, preached unto the Gentiles, believed on in the world, received up into glory.
The mystery of godliness is God manifested in flesh and vindicated by the Spirit.
To wit, that God was in Christ, reconciling the world unto himself, not imputing their trespasses unto them; and hath committed unto us the word of reconciliation.
God was in Christ reconciling the world to Himself.
Who is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of every creature:
Christ is the visible image and revelation of the God who is invisible.
For in him dwelleth all the fulness of the Godhead bodily.
All the fullness of the Godhead dwells bodily in Christ, not a fraction or one-third of deity.

The born child and given Son bears divine titles including the Mighty God and Everlasting Father.
In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.
The Word eternally belongs to God’s own identity and is fully God.
And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth.
God’s own Word became flesh in Jesus Christ; the incarnation is the Word’s arrival in genuine humanity.
I and my Father are one.
Jesus states that He and the Father are one, not merely aligned strangers.
Believest thou not that I am in the Father, and the Father in me? the words that I speak unto you I speak not of myself: but the Father that dwelleth in me, he doeth the works.
Jesus explains the revelation: the Father dwells in Him and performs the works.
Jesus saith unto him, Have I been so long time with you, and yet hast thou not known me, Philip? he that hath seen me hath seen the Father; and how sayest thou then, Shew us the Father?
Jesus answers Philip’s request to see the Father by pointing to His own visible revelation.

Jesus explains that seeing Him reveals the Father because the Father dwells and works in Him.
And Thomas answered and said unto him, My Lord and my God.
Thomas directly confesses the risen Jesus as ‘my Lord and my God.’
Jesus said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Before Abraham was, I am.
Jesus takes the divine ‘I AM’ language before Abraham’s birth.
And the angel answered and said unto her, The Holy Ghost shall come upon thee, and the power of the Highest shall overshadow thee: therefore also that holy thing which shall be born of thee shall be called the Son of God.
Sonship is tied to the holy child conceived and born through the Holy Ghost.
And she shall bring forth a son, and thou shalt call his name JESUS: for he shall save his people from their sins.
The commanded name Jesus announces the LORD’s own saving work for His people.
17 And when I saw him, I fell at his feet as dead. And he laid his right hand upon me, saying unto me, Fear not; I am the first and the last: 18 I am he that liveth, and was dead; and, behold, I am alive for evermore, Amen; and have the keys of hell and of death.
The First and Last is the One who died and is alive forever, joining divine identity to Jesus’ saving death.
But when the fulness of the time was come, God sent forth his Son, made of a woman, made under the law,
God sent forth His Son as one made of a woman and born under the law.
1 God, who at sundry times and in divers manners spake in time past unto the fathers by the prophets, 2 Hath in these last days spoken unto us by his Son, whom he hath appointed heir of all things, by whom also he made the worlds; 3 Who being the brightness of his glory, and the express image of his person, and upholding all things by the word of his power, when he had by himself purged our sins, sat down on the right hand of the Majesty on high;
God’s climactic speech in the Son reveals the exact expression of His being and the radiance of His glory.
All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made.
The Word is God’s creative self-expression through which all things came into being.
7 Who in the days of his flesh, when he had offered up prayers and supplications with strong crying and tears unto him that was able to save him from death, and was heard in that he feared; 8 Though he were a Son, yet learned he obedience by the things which he suffered;
In the days of His flesh, Jesus prayed, suffered, and learned obedience as the Son.
I will not leave you comfortless: I will come to you.
Jesus promises the Comforter and then says, ‘I will come to you,’ linking His return to the Spirit’s indwelling presence.
Behold, a virgin shall be with child, and shall bring forth a son, and they shall call his name Emmanuel, which being interpreted is, God with us.
Matthew applies Immanuel to Jesus: God has come to be with us.
5 Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus: 6 Who, being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal with God: 7 But made himself of no reputation, and took upon him the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men: 8 And being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross.
The One in God’s form truly took servant form, entered human likeness, humbled Himself, and died.
And we know that the Son of God is come, and hath given us an understanding, that we may know him that is true, and we are in him that is true, even in his Son Jesus Christ. This is the true God, and eternal life.
The Son reveals the true God, and Jesus Christ is identified as the true God and eternal life.
